In my upper 30s now, I've noticed my teeth have lost some of their whiteness. I confess that twice now I've used the teeth whitening feature to edit photos of myself. Embarassing! Needless to say, I was eager to try the Smile Brilliant teeth whitening program. This is what they sent me in the mail:
What you do is paint the professional strength whitening gel on your teeth, and then you use the mouthguard so you don't absorb the gel into your lips. Over that, there is a blue LED light you can use to further the whitening process. It can be used daily, for 20 minutes to 2 hours at a time.
I used the teeth whitening kit for 8 days at 20 minutes a day before taking this picture. I found it easy to use and convenient in the evenings when my kids were in bed and I was reading. The difference after 8 days is definitely noticeable. I plan to continue using it for another week or two for even more whitening. I took this picture with no makeup and did not edit it in any way other than to crop it. That way you would see my teeth completely naturally.
I think they look so much better than they did, and I bet by the end of another week of treatment they will be fanastic (but without being like when Ross whitened his teeth on Friends, ha ha!).
The exciting news is that Smile Brilliant is giving away a teeth whitening set to one reader! Please click on the Rafflecopter to enter.

What Should I Wear for My High School Reunion?
So I have that twenty year high school reunion coming up this summer and supposedly there will be an evening that is semiformal. As you might imagine, I have nothing to wear, unless you count yoga pants. So I went to Eshakti to check out their cockatil dresses. I did find one I liked - the Jet Illusion Yoke Jacquard dress.
Paul said it looks vintage when he was taking the pictures, and that is what I liked about it. I also like that it makes my waist look slender, while covering up belly fat. It is sleeveless, with a scoopneck.
The bodice is princess seamed, with an embellished paillette illusion yoke. I found it comfortable and a good fit.
I'm not sure whether this will be the dress for the reunion, but at least now I have Option A! Eshakti carries a wide variety of women's fashions (from size 0 - 36W) and you can use custom measurements and change the lengths before you order.

Cousin It - I told you so...
It's random Friday. I've got 5 things to say.
1. You all didn't believe me when I said I looked like Cousin It. I wasn't joking. But you'll have to wait until next week to see my new haircut. I will say that I didn't chop it all off yet. Normally I cut off 10 inches every 3 years to donate to Locks of Love. But I have a 20 year high school reunion this summer (gulp) and I don't want my hair that short for it. Anyhow, here's my before picture:
2. Recently Paul let it slip (not sure how we got on the topic) that I drank one Diet Pepsi everyday when I was pregnant with Pierce. Pierce got so mad at me! He was all, "BUT I DON'T LIKE SODA!" When Paul asked him if he could remember when I drank soda when I was pregnant with him, he swore that he did in fact remember, and that he hated it.
3. I bought a pair of skinny style 80s jeans on Kohl's clearance for $5. They are incredibly wild (for me) with black flowers over gray denim. I totally would've rocked them in high school, but I wasn't sure I could pull them off now. I got brave enough to wear them out recently, and I got so many compliments that now they rank up there as one of my favorite clothing pieces.
4. I saw a red breasted robin last week. Immediately my winter mood lifted. Now I know that spring is coming.
5. Since spring is coming, I planted carrots, lettuce, and pea seeds in the garden. Looking forward to my own fresh veggies, if all goes well.

P.S. - If you like the Cousin It hat, it's available for purchase in my Etsy store. Then you can get your own Cousin It on.

Shabby Apple Giveaway
I know it's just February, but this is the time of year that I start dreaming of summery dresses and the sun on my arms. Playful tops and classy swimsuits and the sound of kids running on the beach. Luckily, I know just the website to visit when my mind gets all dreamy and stir-crazy with the winter season. I'm never disappointed when I browse through Shabby Apple...
I love the red and white stripes in this Venezia swimsuit. Lately I have been obsessed with stripes. In fact, I am wearing a wide striped black and white shirt as I type this. I also suspect that the high black belt would be slimming. Perfect!
Of course, Shabby Apple is best known for their large assortment of gorgeous dresses. Truly, there is going to be a dress on there that you love. I seem to always be drawn toward their dresses where the model is in the Southwest. The combination of flirty and desert in a vintage dress just calls my name. Check out Cayenne:
Readers, Shabby Apple has been kind enough to offer a $50 giveaway for one lucky person! This is a Rafflecopter giveaway. Disclaimer: I did not receive anything in exchange for this blog post, but I knew that the giveaway and information would be of interest to my readers.

Last Fall I was fortunate enough to win a dress from Shabby Apple (thanks to Shabby Apple and Sandie!). I was not asked to do a review of my dress, but I absolutely love it, so I thought I'd share a picture with my readers - to show that their dresses are beautiful on regular people like myself. The material is so soft, and the cut of the dress I found very flattering.
You know what else I love about this dress? It doesn't tend to get wrinkly (I never, ever iron), so it would be awesome to take when traveling. I haven't had an excuse to wear it yet, but I'm hoping to do so later this Spring.Readers, Shabby Apple has been kind enough to offer a $50 giveaway for one lucky person! Mia Mariu Mineral Makeup Review and Giveaway
It's kind of ironic that when I was younger and had that youthful complexion I spent more time thinking about high quality makeup, and since I worked full time, it was rare that I left the house without it. Now, with three boys and living on such a small budget, makeup has kind of been on the back burner for me, but I definitely need it more now than I ever did when I wore it daily.
I was so excited when I was approved to do a review and giveaway of the Mia Mariu products. They have so many beautiful choices in makeup and skincare that I had a very difficult time in choosing. Because of sun spots on my face, I felt like I needed a concealer most of all, and I decided to try the Mineral Cream Concealer in Miel. I love how lightweight and long-lasting it is, and it doesn't take much to even out the tone of my skin.
I also ordered the hydrating stick gloss in Caricia. I was pleasantly surprised by how silky and smooth it feels upon application - and it doesn't dry out my lips like other products often do. This color is more pink than I expected, but I love soft look it creates. The final product I chose is the Mineral Eye Shadow in Rosa Marquesa. I like that the shadow doesn't seem to fade throughout the day - it stays put. The color seems very natural to me, and the best part? It doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes or bother my contact lenses.
Below you can see the before and after pictures. The only product I used besides the Mia Mariu products pictured above was a little mascara. The look itself came together so quickly - it only took me about 3 minutes! I did use my own eye shadow brushes instead of the ones provided. Mia Mariu offers a wide assortment of makeup brushes as well.
Can you believe the difference in my skin? I don't look all washed out anymore - and I love how it doesn't feel like I'm even wearing makeup. These products are truly high performance, and I felt fantastic wearing them. Not only that, but they are so easy to use (and haven't broken out my skin like some products do) that I can certainly see myself using these on a daily basis, especially since the colors I chose create such a natural look.
Now the best news? One lucky winner will win one of each of the products above! Not only that - but the winner gets her choice of colors as well! If you'd like a chance to win, just enter through the Rafflecopter below. Good luck!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. a Rafflecopter giveaway

Fashion Donts?
September is the peak month for my marathon training, so it seems like I'm always waiting to run, or have just finished a run. As a result, all I ever really wear is running clothes, and the other day I decided to make an effort to wear something a regular person would wear, since I had a day off from running to rest my tired legs. The minute I walked in to wake up the twins, Cort sat up in bed all alert.
"Mom, are those....boots?!"
"Yes, Cort, they're boots."
"Mom, I want to wear boots!"
"Mom, I want to wear boots, too!" - this from Reid.
"Okay, you guys, let's just get dressed for school," I said.
"Mom? Are your pants....yellow?" asks Cort.
"Yes, Cort, they're yellow."
Reid wanders over and reaches out to hesitantly touch my yellow leggings, "Mom, what's this?"
"Leggings, Reid, they're leggings. Let's get dressed you guys!"
"Mom. Yellow pants are silly!" - from Cort.
"Yeah, Mom, he has a point. Yellow pants are kind of silly." - this, from my husband, who is walking by on his way to Pierce's room.
Sheesh you guys! I make an effort for once but I guess they prefer me as I am - sweaty running clothes and all.

Maybe the yellow leggings really were a bad fashion call? What do you think?

How Much Longer Before...
How long do I have before Pierce starts saying:
Mom, can't you wear real shoes to get me from the bus? Slippers? It's so embarrassing!
Mom please! No more yoga pants! Don't you own any jeans?
Please tell me you're not walking out to get the mail in that. Again.
I can't wait until I can LEAVE FOR COLLEGE!
At least I haven't gone to Walmart in them. Yet.

Memory Lane Friday - Bad Hair Day
Memory Lane Friday is a time to preserve your memories for your family. Each week is a different theme, and this week's theme is "Bad Hair Day".
Certainly I had plenty of pictures to choose from. Boring brown hair prone to frizz leaves the door wide open. But by far the worst bad hair episode is from the 80s. OF COURSE IT IS!
I was in middle school, and Jessica N. had the greatest hair. She had the perfect perm - even her bangs were permed and they had the perfect crimped look on a daily basis.
I begged my mom to replicate the look with a home perm.
The result was a lot of tears - such bad hair that even my Swatch shirt and acid wash jeans couldn't undo the uncool poodle factor that was my hair.
Thank goodness that bangs grow out fast, huh?
I certainly never tried the perm trick on my bangs again!
Want to participate in Memory Lane Friday?
It's easy!
Grab the code below the button and copy/paste it into your blog.

Be sure to come back next week. The topic is "A Goof at Work".

Prom 2010
The Mommyologist is hosting a bloggy prom. When I first read about it HERE I realized that it was true. I did have a closet with several fancy dresses that never get worn. But did any of them fit?
Just 10 months post-partum from the twins, my body still hasn't recovered.
The first 2 dresses, sadly, didn't work.
But then I found one that was a little more stretchy.
Now that I had a dress, I had to do this my own way.
See, I'm a self-professed tomboy. Sometimes I might wear a dress or skirt to teach my classes. And I wore a lot of dresses when I was preggo with the twins (because face it - nothing else would fit over The Belly). But that's kind of the exception. So if I'm going to do something like put on formal wear, I need to balance that out a little bit. Guess what else is gathering dust besides my dresses because I'm so wrapped up in this whole raising-3-boys thing?
My dear, dear horse Phoenix.
Who better to take with me to prom?
Of course, the minute I walk out the door in my black formal dress and tall black riding boots, who do I see?
My neighbor, Joe. Embarassing.
"Where are you going in that get up?"
To catch my horse, of course.
Scooter, our border collie, acted as chaperone.
Phoenix didn't even try to eat my corsage. I trained him well.
Pierce watched us leave. No kids allowed at this prom.
Phoenix wore his black tie - a dressage saddle and bridle in formal black, with a black velvet saddle pad. I think we complimented each other well, don't you?
Course he desperately needs a hair cut. What can you do though? He was totally raised in a barn.
I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what others did for Blog Prom 2010. Go check out the Mommyologist to find out!

Cousin It Gets a Trim
For the past ten years or more I've been cycling through growing out my hair for Locks of Love, then getting the mandatory 10 inches chopped off once it gets long enough. This is my 3rd or 4th time donating.
Note in the pic above that I look like Cousin It from behind. And it turns out from the front too!
Me:
Cousin It:
The resemblance is uncanny! Or should I saw WAS.
I don't like myself with hair quite this short, but it was well worth it and I hope it helps bring some little girl happiness.
It takes 10 people to donate just to make 1 wig, so if you've got long hair, consider it!
This short hair better fit in a pony tail, that's all I can say! ;-)

Can I Work This?
Ok, I was all set to blog about something completely different today. But I couldn't. Because I'm so distracted by the fact that I'm wearing a WHITE skirt. And I'm not a skirt person. I might wear a skirt as part of a suit to a job interview. I might, on occassion, wear a skirt to work. But I don't ever wear skirts just hanging out around the house. I just don't do it. I also don't do running skirts. No sir, No way, NOT GONNA DO IT.
Here's the thing, though. I bought this Danskin workout skirt at a thrift store for $3. An impulse buy if you will. I didn't even try it on - one of those things you can tell will fit just by looking at it. The saving grace of this skirt is that it has a black racing stripe down the side, which relegates it as sporty. Therefore, I can possibly deal with sporty - not girly. So I've had it a while now and put it on for the first time this morning. It has those stretchy biker shorts underneath and an elastic waist, plus zippered pockets (which I love). I put it on, actually, in desperation because the one pair of shorts that fits my flabby postpartum twin waist are dirty. And it's going to be hot today. And once I got it on I was all OH. OH, this skirt is SO comfy. But it's WHITE. And a skirt! And I'm a little bit TomBoy. Whatever shall I do?
I have no issues wearing it around the house (particularly since it's even more comfy than my standard issue yoga pants, if that's possible) but if I wear it out, will people mistakenly think I am all feminine and stuff? Nothing better than a housewife who shops all day and eats bon bons (um, no offense if this is your life - but somehow I suspect my fellow moms don't categorize themselves so)? The horrors!
I paired it with a sort of well worn ribbed black tank top. Definitely NOT girly. Today we'll be headed to story hour at the library and this evening I have a meeting of the multiples club. And so I ask. Can I do this? And should I? Or should this skirt head straight to the donation center, where some more skirty-girl than I can sport it? Should I choose physical comfort over mental comfort?

You tell me.
Sorry the picture is grainy. It was taken in Pierce's room, where the furniture has been passed down from my dad's side of the family. Therefore the mirror is antique and a little grainy.

Freudian Art Analysis
One day a week I teach a Human Development class at a local college. My mom (Cat Cat) keeps the boys while I'm teaching. Yesterday my class was discussing the different theorists: Piaget, Erikson, and of course Freud. So here I've been talking about their developmental stages all morning and I come home to find this art project my mom has made with Pierce:
Hmmmmm.
I think they're supposed to be mouse ears.
What do you think Freud would say?
Too bad Freud isn't around to ask.
Or maybe it isn't so bad after all.
Because I'm pretty sure he would call my son a boob-head.
Maybe I need a new sitter...
Don't forget to stop by tomorrow for Memory Lane Friday - topic this week is a family vacation.

A Long Awaited Spa Day
So I was all ready to do a post today about how awesome Paul is for getting me a gift certificate to a day spa for Christmas. But then he made me mad last night. Typical male. And I am still holding a grudge today. Typical female. I am really good at holding a grudge. Not that I'm proud of that. Just being real here.
So while I won't write a bunch of very nice things about Paul today, I will show you how much I enjoyed using my gift certificate.
So while I won't write a bunch of very nice things about Paul today, I will show you how much I enjoyed using my gift certificate.
First, a massage:
I was a little bummed the masseuse didn't work on my IT band, even though I asked her to. I'm wondering if she didn't know what the IT band is?
Look at all the massage goodies:
Then I went for a facial. Check out the writing on the wall:
Life is not measure by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
First facial ever. It was very nice.
Post facial glow:
Then on to a manicure and pedicure.
All those colors to pick from:
I'm a tomboy and messed up my fingernails within about 3 seconds.
But my toenails were photo-worthy.
Okay, after looking through the pictures I guess I forgive Paul.
He is a pretty good husband.
Most of the time.
Don't forget to stop by tomorrow for Memory Lane Friday! Memory Lane Friday is a way to preserve your own memories for those of your children, on your blog. Tomorrow's topic is A Crazy Weather Event. You just post on your blog a story about a memory of a wild weather event from when you were younger and link it up here.
Should be fun!

The 3 Wolf Moon Shirt - My Life is Now Complete
I hope that by now you've read the Amazon 3 Wolf Moon shirt reviews. They've been around for a good while. But in case you haven't, you can read all about this AMAZING shirt here on Amazon . Since I first read about the 3 Wolf Moon shirt, I've had a longing. I've felt as if something was missing in my life, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Sometimes, I would just stare into space with a sense of emptiness. That is, until yesterday.
When the UPS man walked up our muddy driveway (which due to melting snow is currently unpassable without four wheel drive) with a huge box I felt an eerie tingling. The box was from my high school friend, Ginger (Thanks, Ginger!!). I knew she was sending a bunch of clothes for the twins, and was excited about that. But that didn't explain my shivering. Then I opened the box. There, right on top, was the 3 Wolf Moon shirt.
I paced back and forth. I knew that once I put this shirt on, my life would never be the same. It was a point of no return of sorts. There's life before the 3 Moon Shirt and then there is life after. And unless you've actually worn the 3 Moon Shirt you won't understand. Sadly. So here I am, the moment the wolves settled across my skin.
The rest of the night is a blur. I ran up and down our mountain several times, racing the deer. I'm proud to report that I won those races. The deer have nothing on the 3 Wolf Moon shirt. Thanks to my heightened sense of hearing, I heard the crackling of a fire about a 100 miles away, so I ran there and helped put the fire out. I saved 4 kittens and their mother. I also shoveled the snow off our 10 acre horse pasture, because the horses were kind of low on grass. For some reason, the horses kept snorting at me in the 3 Moon Wolf shirt, but I was so busy it didn't upset me too much. I finally went to bed around 4 am, and woke up at 5 refreshed and ready to feed the twins. I'm a little hairier this morning (particularly my arms, which have become downright furry), but otherwise I feel great.
Don't delay! Place your order for the 3 Wolf Moon shirt TODAY! Your life will never be the same!!

CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!
Apparently, no amount of wishful thinking is going to work. Not even with a really good imagination.
I'm thinking about moving back to TEXAS.

Everybody Have Fun Tonight
I've been selling a few odds and ends on Ebay lately and using the money to buy fun family stuff (a year long family zoo membership, Thomas the train track, etc.). Yesterday I got two packages in the mail that I was very excited to see.
Yes, yes, I continue to dream of having my own chickens. One day, I tell ya, one day! The Shrinky Dinks were for Pierce. Incidentally, they came with a very cute pic of two girls who are selling things on Ebay to raise money for activities like Space Camp. Seller name is childrenfundraising if you want to get some Shrinky Dinks of your own (they have several different packages to choose from).
I just knew when I chose this package that Pierce would go for the dinosaurs!
He also picked a teddy bear, since we've been reading Paddington. Incidentally, he seems to be ambidextrous.
The fun part was watching them in the oven. This brought back all sorts of childhood flashbacks for me. Mostly the memory of the cloying nasty smell of the shrinky dinks cooking. Smurf shrinky dinks if my memory is working correctly. But guess what? Modern shrinky dinks don't reek!
Please please please don't look at how dirty my oven is!
You looked, didn't you?
This kit came with the tools to turn your shrinkies into key chains, necklaces, magnets, and little stand up pieces.
And I decided to embrace my 80s childhood.
I never was very good at big hair.
In case you couldn't tell, YES, that is blue eyeshadow I'm wearing!
This Swatch jacket was my most prized possession in 6th grade. I still have it (obviously) but hadn't looked at it in years. Hey, still fits. Maybe I should start wearing it around (not).
Still got my old Swatch too. It originally had clear purple bands.
Now excuse me while I go break out my 80s music. Paul is going to be oh sooooo thrilled.
What do you have sitting around in storage from your childhood?
