Too Many Books

I've been binge reading this year.  After last year when I didn't meet my yearly reading goal of 80 books (I only read 49) I got off to a good start in 2014.  Where I was stalled before, I suddenly rediscovered my love of reading.
Somehow, I've devoured 100 books in the past six months.  Certainly the harsh winter was helpful.  So many books, so little time!  Needless to say, I've been making a lot of trips to the library.

The librarian even talked me into joining an adult summer reading program.  She asked me twice.  I felt kind of embarrassed (5 books over the summer? I'll save it for the folks who need the motivation more than me!  I felt like it would be selfish to join.) so I kindly turned her down.  Finally, the third time, she knuckled down on me.  She wore through my defenses.  I finally agreed, and dutifully read my 5 books and turned in my reviews.  This put my name in the hat for a Barnes and Noble gift card, but hopefully someone who really worked hard to read their 5 books will win.

Now that I hit 100 books, I'm taking a little reading break.  I think that maybe I read too many books.

How about you, readers?  Are you reading anything besides blogs lately?

You surpassed the amount of books that I used to read, I was probably about 60 a year but then now I just can't bring myself to read other than researching something so I still read but it is more specific, parts of books and not fiction, which I like but oh well.

Good for you it is funny and sad I had to donate boxes of my books in a purge it had to be done but I felt like I was giving away family. Reading for fun not for sport:) Hug B

Whew, that's a lot of books! I'm finding I read more with my Kindle now than when I used to go to the bookstore or library.

100 books! That's great. I have been reading, but I doubt I have hit 10 for this year. I love robe library summer reading program :)

I have not been reading much this spring but I have a list of books I'd like to read this summer.

Have a good Monday, Lisa.

I dub thee Queen of the Library! Wow! I'm lucky to make 25 books in a year, which is always my goal. I'm almost finished with War Brides for our July book club. Sadly, it's been a rough go.

Sometimes I ask myself the same; am I reading too much? But, since I don't like tv and when it's times to rest, I grab a book. I haven't read as many as you have (I don't think) but I'm pretty close. :)

(I don't know how you have time to read!) :)

100 books so far? That's awesome! I have been reading a lot this year, but not nearly that many books yet. I don't believe you can read too much. :-)

I have lost touch with my reading, hard to get through the Sunday paper sometimes. I started a book in May, still going on it.

I love to read, and read hundreds before I discovered blogging. Now blogging takes up all my reading time. And with three boys, I don't know how you do it! I have three books right beside me on my end table, and hardly ever get much read from them! I need to take days off from blogging and just read. When I was growing up, I loved bringing a book to the table and reading it. A habit my mother did NOT like and she would often make me get rid of the book till I was done eating.

Reading is good escapism. Now that I am thinking about moving to a smaller place, I am sending many of my books to friends. Most of mine are military history, collected during my Marine Corps career.

If you have a particular period of history you are interested in, Lisa, let me know.

Impressive number! If you do win the gift card I'd say you deserve it. A book has to hook me from the get-go in order to keep me interested, so I am very hard to please. I've downloaded sample after sample for my e-reader, but rarely do I buy after reading the sample. :/

I love to read! I'm a bit frantic if I don't have atleast one good book in the house that I'm interested in. However. 100??... LOL.. wow, Lisa.. that's one heck of a lot of reading :-)

I just finished Still life with Breadcrumbs by Anna Quindlan. Looking for something new.

I like the idea of the Adult Reading programme - we have a children's one in the library I work in.

Publicists keep sending me books! I cannot help it. It's opened up another world to me. I get books I wouldn't buy, and I donate them elsewhere.
I am a voracious reader. Nothing like a glass of wine and a book, on the deck! Usually my cat crawls into my lap for a mush, too!
Good for you. Keep up the reading.

I am seriously impressed! I used to be able to read one book every two days, but now it takes me forever to finish just one!

Hi There, We are home from a trip to the gorgeous West VA mountains –where we celebrated our anniversary… I’ll be blogging about this time for awhile –since it was so special.

I'm not much of a reader (never have been)--but I admire those who love to read. You have done great this year so far.

Hugs,

Betsy

I've probably read an average of 50 books a year since my mom began taking me to the library as a young child. I used to read a lot of novels but in the last twenty years mostly history and biography. Giving up watching TV has increased my reading particularly in the winter to several a week....;)

You are inspirational with your 100. I am at about 10 and am happy with that--most of my reading in the spring and summer though I dedicate to boring work stuff.

I hope you win the gift card anyway.

Is there such a thing as too many books? I'm a French literature major and a bookworm in general, so you can imagine the contents of my bookshelves. Lately though, I have been going to the library to avoid buying any more... there's just no room left!
