JDaniel4sMom has started a new weekly meme. The idea is to create an adventure, craft, or exploration based on a children's book. This is something that we love to do, and I have posted about it off and on. So I was eager to have an opportunity to link up (she will be providing the link up on Fridays).
We decided to do The Three Little Pigs. A classic, no doubt.
First, we recycled a few boxes for our houses.
Then, while the twins were napping, Pierce and I snuck out to the barn to gather some straw. We also got other supplies together - construction paper, tongue depressors, glue gun and glue sticks.
I had to do the glue gun without help, but Pierce was a master at the glue stick parts:
After we had our houses and pigs (and wolf) together, we read the story. We have a couple of different versions, but we decided to use the old school tale from our 1947 Childcraft edition, book 3. These belonged to my dad and his sister and brother when they were little.
This version is interesting because the wolf is a little more intelligent. He tries to charm the 3rd little pig out to a field of turnips, an orchard of apples, and a country fair in order to eat him.
But the 3rd little pig is too smart for the wolf and tricks him by going to these places early.
He even scares the wolf by accidentally rolling down the hill in a butter churn he bought at the fair.
And then he boils the wolf in his pot when the wolf eventually climbs down the chimney.
