Simple Things

A couple of weeks ago I was having new front tires put on my car (sigh) and the boys and I walked over to the mall to kill some time.  We walked through AC Moore, which is a craft store, and I let each of the boys pick out a $1 wooden craft to paint.

These boys....they just love to do a craft project.  They had the most marvelous time painting their wooden boxes (Pierce chose a truck).
Now Cort and Reid have a place to put their treasures (like rocks and sticks and flowers) and Pierce has a truck to drive around the house.

Readers, when is the last time you found something really great for $1?

If you find some smooth rocks the boys can paint them like bugs, kind of a beetle looking thing is the result. We did that in school one time only I brought a square rock for some reason. It was a square rock in a round rock world.

It's been a while, and even then, I bet what I found wasnt as much fun as what the boys found.

My son loves these kinds of crafts too. We picked up a sailboat not long ago for $5. Been a long time since we found something for $1.

Hahaha.... can't buy much for $1 today, but I did find a chalk figure at a yard sale for $1 and sold it for $50. Pretty cool! Looks like the boys are enjoying their paint crafts.

A Dollar Tree opened in our town several years ago. It was a big treat to give Amy a dollar and let her pick something out. She usually went for some type of craft item. We don't go there for toys any more, but it's still great to get dollar gift bags and stuff like that.

And nice work, boys!! :)

It's so fun to see photos of your boys concentrating mightily on what they're doing. That's wonderful that they like crafts and being creative. They will take those traits with them and never be bored!

In May I found Wooly Willies - that old school guys face that you can move the magnet flakes on him to give him a beard, or mustache. I gave them away as party favors.

Those wooden crafts look like fun!

Oh, this brings back memories! Cheap but so much fun! I actually have an old Carrom gameboard from the 1900s that I bought for a dollar at a garage sale!
