A Day of Reading

After the holidays, I felt so worn out.  I needed some relaxation.  So the Friday after New Years, I set out to get all my chores and errands and running done for the next day.  What I was doing was emptying out my Saturday, so I wouldn't have a bunch of pressing things I needed to do.  The house was cleaned, the groceries were stocked, the laundry and dishes were done, and I finished my running mileage for the week.

Saturday was a cold day.  I snuggled up on the couch with a book.  I read.  Sometimes a cat or a kid joined me for a bit.  Sometimes I did get up to make lunch or dinner, or brew some tea.  Then I read some more.  I went out for a bit, to work with Francie.  Then back under the blankets with my book.

It was pretty much the perfect day.  I needed that.

Readers, what do you do when you need relaxation?

To relax I nap. I light a candle and my room and curl up with my nice warm bed...and no dogs, phones, etc..

Heaven.

That sounds wonderful. Time to curl up with a book would be so relaxing.

Reading and writing, those are my two outlets. I definitely have needed more of them recently too. My kids have been under the weather, so we have been spending a lot of time sitting and reading, and while it isn't always a book I would choose for myself, it still helps!

I love to read.. but for some reason I find it hard to do so during the day, unless the weather is absolutely miserable.

I'm curious to know your impression of that book when you're done.

Update on Francie soon?

I used to read a lot but just can't seem to do it these days. I have a bunch of books ready to read, maybe some day. It is a wonderful day when you can manage to get it to happen.
No snow here that I saw but of course I wasn't looking for it.

Cup of vanilla cinnamon tea, audiobook on the nook, and knitting under my Virginia Tech snuggie. :-)

Hi Lisa, Sounds like a delightful day. I just googled the book you read and it certainly sounds captivating. Glad you had a day to mostly do what you wanted.

I love to get all my cleaning/laundry done and watch home and garden tv while browsing thru favorite blogs.

I take a good long afternoon nap when I need to totally wind down and relax. Sleep always does the body, mind and soul a lot of good. xox

That sounds like a perfect day! I love to have plenty of time to read. I have a couple of favorite reading spots in the house. Sometimes Chase Bird joins me for a little while. Then I take a nap. :-)

Read or play the piano!:) I know what you mean by feeling worn from holidays. It was not fun to jump back into long workweeks again!

Book or jigsaw puzzle--both are good. And I have that book you are reading, too!

I really wanted to buy The Goldfinch, but it's such a long read. Also, some of the negative reviews scared me off, saying the story really went nowhere and was depressing. Thoughts?

For relaxation I grab my camera and head to the trees. :)

An opportunity offered by winter, fun to relax. The critters around me make that hard sometimes.

I'm glad you were able to get in a day of relaxation to recharge. I like to watch tv with David or play with the animals to relax.

Sounds like time well spent, Lisa!

...sounds like a day around here, only sub dogs for kids. :) I have become addicted to reading in front of the wood stove lately -- perhaps a way to get away from the reality of cold weather~

Sounds like a perfect day. I'm not much of a reader --but I would snuggle up working on my Genealogy.... That's my passion...

Hugs,
Betsy

That's the best kind of day. I always love those rare days when I could have a personal reading marathon all day.

I've been thinking about reading lately and I think it is exactly what I need right now, to be taken away through a book. Thanks for sharing.
