One of My Favorite Things

I bet you didn't know that one of my favorite things is building fences.  I just love to put in new wooden fencing.  I love the smell of the wood, putting up the boards, and seeing the finished product.  Luckily, we have a post hole digger which makes things easier (although it is still tricky to use, since our land is quite rocky).  And I love the reassurance that it will be there for years to come, and will safely contain the horses.

We recently put in a new fence line along the driveway.  If wood wasn't so expensive I'd put wood fencing all over the place!  I just love it.

On the left you see the new fence.  We still have to take down the electric from behind it - we use that area as one of our horse pastures.  Hopefully at some point we can continue that wood fencing up the driveway to the left, but we've used up our fencing budget for a while.  On the right you can see fencing that we put in about 15 years ago when we started building the horse arena.  The little triangle building in the background is our chicken tractor.

Readers - is there some unlikely chore that you love doing?

Looks like Santa should bring you a small saw mill for Christmas.

We have the old-time-hand-held post hole digger. No fun! I will confess my love for using the vacuum. I love the clean look afterwards!

Been changing fence around here, but play tends to interfere with the work.LOLEach post hoe makes me wish I had a power auger.

You did a great job! I like wood fences too. We have a rail fence on either side of our property. Larry has replaced rails and posts. He also built latticed barriers on some of the fencing to keep the neighbor's lawn keeper from spraying debris on his truck. He loves to build things. But yes, wood is expensive.

I love your new fencing. Well I haven't done it in awhile because of water restrictions but I love to hose off the patios. I always thought it would be fun to work at Disney and hose during the night to get the park clean for morning!!!

Wow---that is GREAT.... I love smelling new wood also although I'm not a builder especially of fences... You amaze me with your talents...

I'd love to see your entire property sometime... Living in the country is a dream of mine --but that will have to wait until another lifetime....

Beautiful picture of some of your area.

Hugs,
Betsy

Well, look at you girl, you did a great job. It looks so good; I hope before too long you can finish!

Unlike some of my friends and family, I absolutely love mowing the grass, and always have. No rider for me. :)

LOVE the fence, it really defines the driveway! I like the smell of fresh wood too. Next, I want to see the chicken tractor; it looks interesting. About a year ago we saw a regular trailer that had been outfitted with a ramp for the chickens. They had their own trailer! They were going up and down the little ramp. I will post it at some point. Let's see, I love cleaning out drawers, closets, and cabinets. It relaxes me and I feel better when things are neat and findable.

Most of the time I don't mind doing dishes. I like seeing an empty sink. :) I also didn't mind trimming the boy's nails when they were little. It seemed like cutting out little things for collage artwork. I didn't mind potty training. I loved the idea that one less diaper was being used.

I'm with Michelle...I like to vacuum and clean house.

Ha! I would be honest in saying that I developed a deep, instinctual hatred for fences when I was younger. I have painted and oiled my fair share of them, not to mention repairing them god knows how many times.

That said, I'm not sure of any common chore that I love, but ironically things that get me dirty are always a plus (by that, I mean anything in the earth itself). Give me a shovel and I'll dig a trench. Give me a trough and I'll plant a garden. Give me brown dirt and green leaves and really anything else dirty and growing.

What can I say? I grew up in the woods.

4 years ago,, I replaced all the old rotten boards on our fence too,,
I think the old boards were 20 years old,, and had been painted white,
MISTAKE! White paint peels,, bad,, So the new boards are stained a cedar color,, and does good. The boards were heavy,, but screwing in the screws was fun,

So cool! You seem handy at everything. I honestly think I'd be terrible at putting up fences; I just wasn't born with the DIY gene. A skill? I think I'm decent at mowing the lawn and planting bulbs. When it comes to cooking, I make a mean gazpacho :)
