May was very rainy here. So rainy I could not get into my garden for weeks. I would sink six inches in the mud. Plus it developed an underground stream running through the middle. I tried planting some seeds during that time, but they didn't come up. However, plants that I put in during April are doing well.
In another section I replanted beans, kale, and a few other things that never came up. I also have a number of tomatoes and peppers going. Plus herbs from last year - lavender, comfrey, lemon balm, mint.
So far, we have only eaten lettuce, swiss chard, and turnips. Hopefully now that it isn't so rainy, my garden will start to perform better. I ordered some peanuts and plan to plant those as well.
Readers, do you have a garden this year?
...here you would need a canoe to get in your garden.
Peanuts are always fun.I haven't eaten much other that greens and radishes, have a pepper almost ready and lots of tomatoes coming on
Your garden looks really nice.
With my wife spending the summer with my daughter up North, our gardening effort has pretty much gone by the wayside. I have all I can do to keep the place up by myself.
Your garden is lovely, and looks so pioneery...well, is that a word? Yes, we have had so much rain! Hey, the balloon show is now at the Horse Center in Lexington. Let me know if you want details. They will have a balloon glow when it gets dark, too. If you go, we can meet!! Well, I have a small garden of herbs in pots now. They are organic and locally raised. So far, basil and chives. I am loving it. They sell mint, but I cannot drink tea so I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Very cool garden! Yes I have one too!
Hope your garden gets going soon, and that you get some dryer weather. As for us, we have had a very dry year so far, with very high temperatures all the way through, but fortunately we have a spell of wet weather with us, which is good for the vegetables but equally good for the weeds!
Your land is beautiful! Look at it growing!!
Next year I am going to have time to put a good early garden in, this year it will be late if everything goes well. I am afraid the bugs will all starve before my plants get large enough to eat! I did have that happy accident where the turnip patch reseeded itself because I was so late tilling so I didn't till and have a nice patch of greens already.
I'm pretty much just gardening in containers.
Sorry about all of that rain. Hopefully, like you said, it will start to perform better. We have some tomatoes this year.
Considering all the rain, you're doing pretty well! It's too hot for gardening now, but I'll start mine in October again. I've never thought about growing peanuts; let us know how they do.
Gosh y'all really got some rain! No garden here- I haven't had time to even think about it. But, I plan on sneaking some squash and okra from my daughter's garden! Just kidding- she's sweet enough to bring it to me. Have a blessed day!
Your garden is beautiful! We have a green tomato and some little cucumbers. And Larry just told me this evening that lettuce is ready to pick.
Interesting! Happy gardening!
Happy July 4th! Happy Independence Day!
Happy Birthday America to all of you, Lisa & Family!
Have a wonderful celebration with those you love!
I am so proud to be an American, even though I am far away...
Sorry that I'm Not Online much, due to the fact that I'm ILL.
I still remember my good friends, so I say hello to you today.
God may bless you all.
God bless America!!
Greetings from Poet Starry.
We're getting some of that weather here now. However, after the thermometer reached 101 yesterday, I was glad the rain cooled it off. Not very happy, though, that the power was off 5 1/2 hours. LOL
I always say we're going to plant a vegetable garden every year, and then every year, we get busy... We do have a few tomato plants on our porch. Our perennial flower garden came up... (I don't think either counts.) Kudos to you for still trying to plant more vegetables even though the weather didn't cooperate in the spring. Your garden looks like it's flourishing now!
My husband has a great garden going. I've tried to stay away from it all with my nose surgery on the 23rd. I just didn't want my allergies to freak out right before surgery. Now everything is so dry, and sensitive.
I wish I had one here in NYC! But I keep all my potted flowers to brighten up my house :)
