Dogs Need Friends Too

When we left for a couple of weeks this summer, our dog migrated over to the neighbor's house.  I think he missed our boys, and family companionship.  He and the neighbor's dog, Bailey, became fast friends.  So when our neighbors left on vacation a few weeks ago, Bailey decided to return the favor and move in to our yard.  The neighbors returned, but Bailey is still spending a good part of his days at our house.  I'm happy for Scooter.  Dogs need friends too.  In the past, we've always had two dogs at a time, but for some reason since we adopted Scooter from a shelter 4 years ago, we've just had him.

Scooter and Bailey, while different breeds, are both herding dogs, well-suited to the farm life.  They play rough, but you can tell while watching it that they are just having fun.

Bailey is really good at making monster faces.  Kind of reminds me of my twins when they put on monster masks and try to scare each other.  If I was Scooter, I'd be terrified of that face, but he isn't fooled.

He says, "Now who's got the upper hand?"

Yup, they sure do enjoy hanging out together.
Let's just hope that Bailey doesn't teach Scooter the joys of chasing the schoolbus!

Great shots Lisa I always worried about the way dogs play but I had brothers lots of brothers and they showed affection the very same way:) Hug B

Happy dogs, our dog gets real territorial when other dogs are around but she seems to bark more than bite.

As pack animals, I do think dogs feel more comfortable with other dogs... great photos and commentary Lisa.

I see dogs play like that all the time. One pair at the rescue, a border collie mix and a little cattle dog mix, play just like that--always squabbling and snarling, chewing on each other, but it's not a serious fight.

Dogs DO need friends and it's probably why we generally have two dogs at a time. Ours play rough and cajole one another with mean growly faces every day... just all part of being a fun loving pup. xox LOVE THESE PHOTOS!!

This is part of the reason we have three pups. :)
Wonderful photos and post!

I love watching our cats fight. It usually starts with a lick. Sweet bath time. Awwww. Then the kill bite...

Good looking dogs. They are pack animals and do need pack mates. I usually have around five or six dogs here. People haven't been dumping them off in the woods so much as they used to though, so right now I don't have that many.

Love the pictures. Dogs playing together like that bring me so much joy. Our girl Skye plays with my daughters dog Charlie often and they have a blast!

Very cool that he has a dog pal! No longer a one-man wolf pack...

They are both gorgeous pups! Our neighbor's dog would walk a mile to our house to eat our dogs food until it died of old age last month. I didn't even realize that dog was that old.

Good to know their friends, as some of the 'toothy' shots would look otherwise!

You are right, dogs need friends. Our Flip is staying at our son's house while we are in The Netherlands. I know he is missing his daily runs through our forest and his girlfriend terrier Kara. Her owner says Kara is missing Flip, too. We will be home next week! Linda@Wetcreek Blog
