RIP Apple Tree

I've blogged before about how much we loved the apple tree that resided in our front yard for so many years.  It provided us with many an apple pie; with apple butter and apple jellies.  The boys would grab apples as they walked by, to eat as a snack.  The deer sheltered under the branches, munching the apples when they fell to the ground.

It was a sad, sad day when a windstorm blew the apple tree down recently.  We truly will miss it next fall.  RIP apple tree.

Oh that's too bad. Is it too late to stake it up? I had several trees flat to the ground after hurricane Hugo many moons ago. I staked them up and was surprised they made it and are now huge trees.

It was a bad wind that could do that to an apple tree. I don't have any here other than a wild one of some kind. If I had money, I would have a bunch planted on the hill. You will have to go out to Peter's orchard, he tries to go light on pesticides and he also has peaches. She sells baked goods at the farmer's market.

Aw, perhaps the boys can plant a new one next year !
The old one sounds like it will be missed. We have a very old apple tree (just one) on our farm too.

Oh, how sad.
Will you be able to make something out of the wood as a memory? Even cutting a branch into disks for coasters or something would be cool...

Yes, it did make the best pies. Sorry to see it down.

Oh my. That would make me very sad. Storms can cause a lot of harm.

oooh, that is definitely a bummer.

Maybe next spring you can plant a replacement.

Oh no! That is so sad. Have you planted another?

That is so sad! I hope you are able to plant a new tree to replace it!

Ours got taken out a couple of years ago by a nasty windstorm as well. I have planted 2 more in its place but I sure do miss that one terribly.

Sad to lose a tree, but the wood is good cooking and smoking wood for meats.Makes chicken almost a steak.

Oh- that would upset me too- It does look like it might be worth a try at staking it back up though!

Oh, I'm sorry about your apple tree. It's hard to lose a tree. They are such a part of our landscape and habitat for the animals. Maybe y'all can plant another one in the spring.

I'm guessing it was probably sick---that's why it fell. We had that happen to our apple tree and half of the roots were dead. :( Maybe you can plant a new one in the spring?!

I hope so.

I remember when that happened. Maybe you could plant another one, you are still young.
