First Day of School

The boys headed back to school on August 10th.  Yes, it was early!  We felt like the summer went too fast.  We checked off most of the items on our summer bucket list, although not all.  But we had a few surprises built in that weren't on the list, so it all evened out.

The boys were excited that they all got the teachers they wanted.  So we are hoping for an excellent year.

Readers, can you remember much from 1st grade?  What about 3rd?

Fun times for them! At least they will be done with the semester before Christmas break and out early in the spring. We missed the bus yesterday as the driver just came 5 minutes early.

They're growing up so quickly!

My first grade teacher was Mrs. Knoy and we were the class they experimented on, they were trying out Montessori teaching methods.
Third grade, the teacher took off at Christmas break and never returned; her replacement had no idea what she was doing so we were all behind when we entered 4th grade.

Nope, don't remember a thing, lol. ;-)

Remember both well. 1st grade we moved to a new suburb housing division. The school wasn't completed and the 1-2 grades were in converted houses.

Such cute boys and know they will have fun and learn so much this year. I remember where I went to school in the 1st and 3rd, but that is all. That has only been 68 years ago, so hard to recall. lol

Success for a great school year! I remember grades 1 and 3, believe it or not! And all the other 50 something years I was a student and a teacher! As a teacher, I often wished I could choose my students. Where does that actually happen? ;)))) Linda@Wetcreek Blog

Hi Lisa, This is a great photo of the boys' first day of school.
I was very bashful in first grade and sat in the teacher's lap every morning until I "warmed up" to school! Third grade, I had a teacher who encouraged art and writing, which I loved!
Wishing you all a very nice weekend.

HI, It's hard to believe that those two babies are in 1st grade now.... Mercy Me--how time flies.... You and hubby are raising 3 fine young men!!!!! I know you are proud of them...

I do remember my 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Mehaffey.... AND--I remember when I was in 3rd grade, my Mom/Dad took me to California on the train to attend one of my brother's weddings... We were gone for 2 weeks and I missed school. The teacher gave Dad my 'lessons' and he made me study on the train EVERY day.... But--I kept up. The kicker came when I was back home and received my report card for that period... The teacher CUT my grades even though I did all of my homework while we were gone... My parents were furious ---and I wondered why I had done all of that extra work.

Hugs,
Betsy

Aw, sorry to hear the boys are back in school. The kids go back to school at the end of August here in Ireland.

They sure had a great Summer though and am sure they are looking forward to the year ahead.

Cute pic with the chalk boards!

I actually have a memory from Kindergarten. I didn't want to go. The principle came and took me around the school showing me where my brother, sister and cousins classes were. Then he took me to the school nurse who drew pictures on the top of my hands with mercurochrome!

Hope the boys have a great school year.....

awe - they are so, so cute. I hope they have a good year! Started here Monday also. :)

First grade; we were living in Washington state, what I remember most though were the apple orchards.

I can't remember much from that far back.

I'm glad the kids got their teachers. It makes a big difference if you like your teacher.

My 1st grade teacher had a husband who owned a doughnut shop, so you know I remember her :) My third grade year my Dad left for a year long overseas assignment in Iran. Didn't see him at all that year and my teacher treated me like a queen.

Glad they got the teachers they wanted! Especially since they are starting so early.

Schools start so early now! Campbell County starts Monday. Your boys are just precious. Are Cort and Reid in the same class?

My first day of school was my first day of first grade--no kindergarten in public schools here at that time. My friend Timmy and I sat together in the cafeteria waiting to be called by our teacher, Miss Mosely. We were concerned when she called all her students and left. We didn't know there were two other first grade teachers. lol I got Mrs. Evans. My third grade teacher was Mrs. Kimpton. :-)

Wow, that is really early for school to be back in session! I recall a few things from the 1st grade specifically but mostly all the lower grades kind of melded into a blob of memories not being sure which grade belonged to which memory, lol! Your boys are total cuteness but I'm sure you know that already, :D

I got a lot done this summer on ye olde bucket list, some of which have been on the list for a couple of years! So, all in all it feels pretty good project accomplishment wise! Still a few small-ish things I would like to get finished before or by early fall like cleaning out the garage now that we have our new garage door installed. I hope to set up a little space that I can work in to do some restoration furniture projects this fall and perhaps this winter. Oh dear, what would we do without our lists? LOL!!!
Hugs for now and enjoy the weekend my sweet blogging sister,
Beth P

Oh my gosh! Is it that time already? Gosh, summers go so fast when you are grown up.

I remember really good things about grade school. Nice teachers, recess, the joy of a box of new crayons....but I also remember some weird stuff--like both first and last names of my classmates, the smell of that sawdusty stuff the janitor used to pour on fresh barf to clean it up, how I used to wear shorts under my dresses/skirts on gym day and walking to school and being able to come home for lunch.

Here's wishing lovely memories for your kids and a GREAT school year ahead!

All I remember about 1st grade is the teacher I had. She was so kind, and would for go her break at recess time to stay in with me to try and help me read. My mom didn't even ask her to do that. Third grade actually seems more like a blur to me. It's the only teacher I didn't care for. She would get highly annoyed that I didn't get things the same way as others.

I can't believe they're back to school! They certainly look happy and ready to go. Were they hesitant at all? Are they bringing home lots of homework? I'm trying to get prepared...
