Memorable Summer Meals - Vintage Style

I was looking for a recipe in my great-grandmother's collection recently, and came across this card entitled "Memorable Summer Meals".  It is from 1973.
I don't know what you think, but I can say with certainty that if someone served up a summer meal where the centerpiece was a lime jello castle stuffed with shrimp, tomatoes, and peas, it would be.....er......memorable.

Readers, have you had any 'memorable' meals?  Do tell.

Hey -- I grew up in that "era" of mystery jello desserts. You could not make me eat them, even if I was threatened with banishment to my room. :)

Just give me the shrimp, lime jello - not so much.
No school again, -1 here so far.

Memorable..yes. Edible? Not so much.

My most memorable meal was an experiment by my maternal grandmother: tomato aspic with spinach.

Trust me, it was worse than it sounds, especially since her spinach came from a can.

gross!! but what i really want to do is see if it will do a shaky shake. jellos are suppose to move, right? why not right into the trash. that sounds about right to me. i guess i would try a piece but not much. i enjoy shrimp, jello & fruits too but not all together. ( :

At first I saw the picture and thought, oh yum, then I saw the shrimp and was grossed out a little. That would definitely be a memorable party.

I didn't think it looked so bad, until I saw the shrimp in there. It just "ain't right"! lol

A bizarre combination. Ours were always fruit mostly. School made lime jello with celery and carrots that wasn't bad.

Not sure that'd get a lot of plate time on the buffet table. ;)

It was a pretty presentation though, right? :)

I grew up during the time of anything can be done with Jello. :-) I was never a fan of the lime.

Any time my mother cooked liver, it was memorable. I hated it, but she made me eat some because it was full of iron. I learned to stuff my mouth with bread, then add a bit of meat,

I remember most all meals made by my mother. She was a fabulous cook (I didn't get any of those genes)---and I can remember so many things she made which I loved and haven't EVER been able to find anything as good (Prune Cake, her special slaw, Cheese Rolls, Rhubarb, Ambrosia, etc. etc. etc.)
Hugs,
Betsy

Ewwww! At least it is something to look at haha. Thankfully I've never had a meal quite this memorable before.

I literally made this face when I saw this blog post

DO NOT WANT JELLO SALAD WITH SHRIMP!

My most memorable meal was tofu tacos. It sounded good to me, but they were absolutely awful. Inedible. And I can usually make a good meal out of anything. But tofu does not belong on tacos.

Gross. Who started sticking stuff in jello??? And why? My mom STILL makes jello molds for special occasions. To me, that is just weird.

I think moms eat boring food,, but I had a memorable meal once.. I ate 9 pieces of white bread cause I swallowed a light from the Christmas tree,,, and the dr said eat bread. So I did - and that was 5 years ago,, and I still remember how wonderful the bread was.

For me, it's a strange meal!

How funny. My mother fixed plenty of creative jello stuff, but I can't imagine the looks she would have received has she set that down on the table.

Yes, those jello things used to be very popular. Not too bad if you can get past the weird appearance and odd texture.

I've never eaten jello. Nor do I plan to.

Never had anything like this... and I am sure I would have tried it loL!

Well...I wasn't planning on bringing this up, but since you mention it...I can't cook meat loaf. I love it, I think it is the tastiest food ever, but no matter how many recipes I try/experiment with heat/time it shrinks to a black 1" in diameter lump.

>.< No one wants to eat it.

Hi Lisa,
I love your recipe.
It has got good combinations of different flavours that I like.
My granny was the best cook I had ever met, especially when it came to pasta food.
Thank you for sharing this one!
Have a blessed time, Lisa, with those you love, my friend!
I've finished my photo poem for you, and sent it to your email.
All the Best,
Starry.

That's frightening! I don't eat gelatin because I know from whence it comes.
