Fish in the Closet and Favorite Places

1.  A friend of mine was giving away tickets to see the ballet of Cinderella, so I took my little dancer, Cort.  We had a splendid time (and he picked out his outfit himself - doesn't he look handsome?).
2.  Pierce recently had to take some sort of end of the year reading test.  He made a big deal out of going to bed early and having a healthy breakfast.  That morning, while eating breakfast, Paul said, "The big reading test.  Well that's exciting!"  Pierce said, in his deadpan voice, "It's not exciting.  It's serious."

3.  Paul was brewing up some wine and had it in a big contraption in his closet.  It made burbling sounds as it fermented.  Cort came down and asked if he could see the fish in our closet.

4.  The boys recently had a big debate over how big God is.  The twins thought God is small because he "lives in your heart".  Pierce thought God is big because if you add up all the hearts in the world, that makes for a really big God.  I think I need a philosopher on retainer for some of these questions the boys come up with.

5.  Recently I was trying to get Cort to calm down when he was particularly upset.  I was doing a little meditation with him and was telling him to imagine his favorite place.  You know - most people picture the beach or whatever.  I was like, "Can you see it in your mind".  He nodded, eyes squeezed tight.  "Where is your place?" I asked, curiously.  He responded, "Chick Fil A.  It is my favorite place.  I like their chicken nuggets.  And I like their French fries.  And I like their drinks".

Readers, what is your favorite place these days?

The ballet sounds superb. I have dance recitals this weekend and next to go to. A favorite place is in the hearts of others.

Cort was styling for the show! GQ all the way. And I can relate to a food-themed happy place. I think mine would rotate based on mood though.

Yes Cort looks handsome. I bet he really enjoyed it. Love Pierce's comment about his test. Fish in the closet....too cute! Very smart answers on the size of God. Have to love Cort's answer on the vision in his mind. Have a nice weekend.

Love this post, Lisa. Always enjoy hearing about the boys; they really are cute and smart. I like that they talk about God! Cort chose a very nice outfit to wear; so glad you two had a nice time. Girl! You are beautiful, inside and out. :)

Your sons are adorable! I love the idea that God is huge because he lives in all the hearts! Love the shot of you with your little one going to the ballet. He dressed himself to look very dapper! Love the fish in the closet. It was just a great post! Enjoy those sweeties while you can! My grandson is 13...he is here today and I adore spending time with him, but it is different than the time we spent when he was small. It's all good....just different. :-)

Lisa, I am truly loving this post. Each little story is a real GEM. It has really tickled me! I would love if you did something like this on a regular basis, just a few little stories from your week. What an awesome thing to do with Cort, just a time for the two of you. The picture is beautiful. Tell him I think he has a great fashion sense. Oh, and also tell him that I love Chick Fil A too!

I enjoy reading about your family. I always think of my own kids at that age when I do.

I guess my favorite place is a spot up on the mountain side above the buildings. It's got a terrific view, and my ferrets who have passed away are resting there.

#1 Of coarse he does!
#2 All this testing stuff is getting to be too much.
#3 Brewing wine? Really?
#4 The comes in small, medium, large and extra large sizes.
#5 Chick Fil A, oh that is sad.

this post is full of the gems of life that can only come from the mouths and hearts of children. Art Linkletter was so right when he hosted an aptly named show 'Kids Say The Darnest' Things'.

Hi, Lisa,
I have never eaten at Chick Fil A. I am lucky if we eat chicken twice a year. My husband does not like it, so that limits our chicken dinners. My favorite place is in my kitchen. And I actually hate to cook. Glad you and Cort got to see Cinderella. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

What fun! Kids really do say the funniest things. I recently learned that Friendly's is one of my son's favorite places in the whole world. (What is it about boys and food?) I think that's great that your son tells you about a "serious" reading test. My son is still in the phase where he prefers not to talk about school at all...(LOL)

That is an adorable photo of you two! I hope you both enjoyed the ballet. I LOVE the ballet--but it can be so very expensive to go. :(

The Chick Fil-A comment cracked me up. That is a great response.

Hi There, Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you and yours also. Let's never forgot those who died for our freedoms... God Bless them ALL.

Love that picture of you and Cort.. Bet he enjoyed the ballet...

Hope you are writing down all of the cute questions/answers given by your sons... ADORABLE.

Sorry I haven't been around much. George and I have a couple of new online programs (one is a Food Journal and one a fitness/exercise program) --so we are VERY busy increasing our exercise and getting healthier... That's my excuse and I'm sticking' with it... ha ha

Hugs,
Betsy
